The Browns only gave up 94 total yards as the Titans only had the ball for just over 21 minutes. 94 yards!!!
What a day for Jim Schwartz and the entire defensive group, but especially Myles Garrett who just flat-out took over the game at times with his play-making getting 3.5 sacks on Sunday. Garrett’s sack to end the first half was one of the biggest plays of the game.
It was not perfect, but Deshaun Watson was very good on Sunday going 27 for 33 for 289 yards and two touchdowns. What was promising was that the Browns, at moments, had a hard time keeping the Titans rush away from Watson, but it did not stop him from making plays (Watson got better as the game went on). Hopefully, this is the game that finally gets him into a groove.
Watson loves throwing to Amari Cooper, who had another big game for Cleveland, going 116 yards on seven receptions for a touchdown.
Kareem Hunt was back on the field and he definitely brought an energy that was missing for the Browns offense. Hunt got 13 yards on five carries and two receptions for 22 yards.
This might be the game to circle down the road if the Browns do big things late into winter, as the defense shut down Derrick Henry for 11 carries and only 20 yards as Deshaun Watson found his groove possibly. Even Jerome Ford had some moments in this game that were reassuring as a fan. Big day for our Browns!!
Myles Garrett was a force to be reckoned with, sacking quarterback Ryan Tannehill an impressive 3 1/2 times and leading the charge for the Cleveland defense, which stifled the Tennessee Titans to a mere 94 yards in a resounding 27-3 victory on Sunday.
Just six days after the Browns (2-1) suffered the loss of star running back Nick Chubb to a season-ending knee injury in Pittsburgh, Garrett, and the Cleveland defense rose to the occasion with a dominant showing that left the Titans (1-2) overwhelmed.
Cleveland’s offense also showcased its prowess, with Deshaun Watson delivering his best performance since joining the Browns. Watson completed 27 of 33 passes for 289 yards and two touchdowns, including a spectacular 43-yard connection with Amari Cooper that solidified the Browns’ commanding 27-3 lead in the fourth quarter.
Jerome Ford, stepping into Chubb’s starting role, contributed two touchdowns, one from a 19-yard reception courtesy of Watson and another from a 3-yard run.
Tennessee experienced its worst day on offense in recent memory, amassing the fewest yards since their relocation from Houston in 1997. The previous low was 98 yards against Jacksonville in 2006.
The Browns held Tennessee’s All-Pro running back, Derrick Henry, to a meager 20 yards on 11 carries, forced the Titans to punt seven times in nine possessions, and limited them to just six first downs.
Throughout the game, Tannehill faced relentless pressure, enduring five sacks and completing only 13 of 25 passes for 104 yards. Tennessee’s offense struggled to find any rhythm.
Garrett set the tone right from the beginning, delivering a crucial sack as the Titans were driving for a potential score before halftime. This sack provided a fitting conclusion to a defensive performance orchestrated by first-year coordinator Jim Schwartz, who had previously advised the Titans for two seasons.
In a fitting symbol of Garrett’s dominance, he notched another sack on the final play of the half, a play where he sprinted past left tackle Andre Dillard, who was unable to contain him.
Garrett’s pivotal sack effectively sealed the game, but Jerome Ford added to the certainty with his third-quarter touchdown, propelling the Browns to a 20-3 lead.
The exclamation point for the Cleveland defense came in the early moments of the fourth quarter when Alex Wright and Garrett combined for consecutive sacks, much to the delight of coordinator Jim Schwartz, who couldn’t hide his satisfaction on the sideline.
Watson’s touchdown pass to Ford followed a hit to the head by linebacker Arden Key, who was penalized for roughing the passer on the same play the Titans were flagged for pass interference. Despite the hit, Watson remained in the game and, four plays later, connected with Ford for the touchdown.
At that juncture, the Browns had outgained the Titans by a staggering margin of 117 yards to just 2.
