The Cavs are finally getting some players back on the floor this past week. In particular, Donovan Mitchell and Isaac Okoro were back, and Mitchell made a significant impact on the Hawks’ victory, scoring 40.
Ty Jerome is still out, and Dean Wade is the latest addition with an ankle injury.
2 – Offense and Defense Ratings
Over the past two seasons, Cleveland has been known for defense, with the top defensive rating in the league last season. The Cavs are 12th as they have yet to be as consistent, but they are trending upward, going up two spots from 14.
The offensive rating is still in the bottom half of the league at 22.
Overall, this is why the Cavs have not had a massive leap in victories; they need to consistently play “junkyard dog” defense as they are figuring out their identity on the offensive side.
It will be interesting to see how the Cavs handle Craig Porter Jr., who has played well with multiple players out with injuries for Cleveland. JB Bickerstaff must find minutes for the returning players, which cuts into Porter’s time on the floor.
This is not an easy balancing act for Bickerstaff, as Porter has made an impact and needs time on the floor to develop.
