3 Topics From Cavaliers 2023 Media Day

1 – Mitchell’s Goal

SG Donovan Mitchell admitted throughout the press conference that last season ended poorly. Still, he is also very excited about the Cavs “special” group and has rings on his mind:”Our biggest goal is winning the championship.”

He also spoke about how much he likes the Cavs as an organization and helped recruit free agents SG Max Struss and PF Georges Niang to Cleveland.

Mitchell also spoke to the media about how good the defense was last season but how the team needs to convert stops into buckets on the other end, along with picking up the tempo.  Cavs fans should expect more stops into points this season.

2 – Welcome Back Tristan!

“Life works in strange and mysterious ways,” C Tristan Thompson told the press about his return to Cleveland on media day, “I’m glad to be back.”

Thompson mentioned how impressed he has been with the Cleveland rebuild since 2018 when LeBron James and others departed.  He also wants to help the team with experience and knowledge and, when needed, bring “toughness” on and off the floor, even giving tough love to the team.

C Jarrett Allen also spoke about how Thompson’s tough love for the team will be done to help “as teammates and as players.”

Allen: “We need people to push us to make us uncomfortable so we are comfortable in the hardest moments.”

3 – Mobley Playmaking

PF Evan Mobley spoke about how he wanted to focus in the offseason on the offensive side of the ball.   He spoke about “handling the ball a little more,” even to the point of getting a rebound and going upcourt, and according to Mobley, he will be shooting more this year, inside and outside.

Mobley improving on the offensive end on the floor was clearly a goal set by the team as he spoke about the topic often.  Also, getting more strength, he has added seven pounds of muscle for the upcoming season.
