Jerome Ford only has eight career carries and zero receptions, but he is the next player up when Nick Chubb is needing a breather. After Ford, there’s a huge gap on the depth chart with Demetric Felton Jr. and John Kelly Jr. the next names up for running backs. Ford’s playing time will significantly be going to go up and he is going to need to perform as he will be relied on to make plays.
There was huge excitement in the 2022 training camp with Jakeem Grant before his season-ending injury as he was dazzlingly good in practices not just receiving kicks but making plays in the passing games. There has been no buzz with Grant in 2023, not even a small peep. Hopefully, Grant can bounce back as he brought a lot of positive energy last offseason and can help lift special teams.
Coaches have mentioned Rodney McLeod as being a leader for the new Browns’ defense led by Defensive Coordinator Jim Schwartz. All of the attention has been on the defensive line this offseason, which is a welcome sight as the D-line needed to be made a huge focus. A lot of attention has also gone toward Juan Thornhill and Grant Delpit. But as you listen back to the coaches, they are relying heavily on McLeod for leadership to teach and guide the Schwartz defense to his teammates.
