3 Things Recapping the Cleveland Cavaliers Winning the NBA Summer League

1 – Isaiah Mobley MVP

What a fantastic NBA Summer League (NSL) for Isaiah Mobley winning NSL championship MVP honors with 28 points and 11 rebounds.  Mobley proved this summer that he is ready for some NBA time and Mobley on multiple occasions took games over in NSL play.  He is a versatile big man as he can score, rebound and pass.

2 – Merrill and Bates

Sam Merrill proved why the Cavaliers signed him to an NBA contract as he can shoot the lights out.  Merrill will not see a lot of floor time with the Cavs this coming year, but when they are hurting for shooting, Merrill can provide a spark.

Emoni Bates had a good summer league as well and more importantly, improved each game.  He needs time to develop and more than likely will start for the Charge as he needs playing time, but any question about his playing ability has been put to rest for the moment.  The potential for Bates is exciting, a high ceiling for sure.

3 – Don’t forget

The other two players that I would not forget about are Craig Porter Jr. and Luke Travers. Porter will be playing for the Charge this coming season and Travers is heading back to Australia, but both showed a lot of ability and have the potential to make an impact with the Cavaliers in 2024-25.
