On Friday night, the Cleveland Cavaliers managed to secure a 110-100 victory over the Detroit Pistons despite missing key players Donovan Mitchell due to knee soreness and Caris LeVert due to elbow issues. Darius Garland led the charge with an impressive performance, sinking eight 3-pointers and tallying a total of 29 points. Evan Mobley also made significant contributions, recording 22 points along with an impressive 17 rebounds.
Although Cleveland seemed to have a comfortable lead of 77-52 in the third quarter, they struggled in the final quarter, only managing to score 19 points, which allowed the Pistons to narrow the gap to 107-100. Nonetheless, the Cavaliers held on to their lead and improved their record to 39-20.
Garland’s accuracy from beyond the arc was notable, as he shot 8 of 12 from 3-point range but struggled with 2-pointers, making only 1 of 9 attempts.
For the Pistons, Cade Cunningham led with 21 points and 10 assists, while Isaiah Stewart contributed 16 points and nine rebounds. However, despite their efforts, Detroit suffered their seventh loss in eight games, dropping to a record of 9-50.
Cleveland dominated the game in the first half, particularly from 3-point range, outscoring Detroit 39-9 in that department. They built a commanding lead of up to 26 points before the Pistons managed to narrow it down to 63-48 by halftime.
Although the Pistons made a late surge in the fourth quarter, pulling within eight points with just over two minutes remaining, Garland responded with a crucial 2-pointer, allowing the Cavaliers to maintain their lead and eventually run out the clock for the win.
