3 Notes Around the Loss

1 – No D

The Cavs’ defensive performance was poor, and it cost them from deep as the Nets shot over 50% from three, going 18 for 35.

2 –  Boards

Cleveland has been struggling lately on the boards, and that trend continued as the Nets outrebounded the Cavs by 9.

3 – 3rd Quarter

The third quarter was the death blow for the Cavs on Sunday night, as the Nets outscored them 44 to 29.

Game Recap

Thomas amassed 29 points in just 31 minutes of play, complemented by Mikal Bridges’ 25-point performance as the Brooklyn Nets surged past the injury-burdened Cleveland Cavaliers, securing a 120-101 victory on Sunday night.

Contributing to the Nets’ triumph, Dennis Schroder contributed 17 points and eight assists, while Nic Claxton posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Brooklyn dominated the game, holding the lead for only 1 minute and 41 seconds, all occurring in the early stages of the third quarter.

Georges Niang led Cleveland with 20 points, followed by Jarrett Allen’s 15 points and nine rebounds. Darius Garland chipped in with 14 points and five assists. However, the Cavaliers, missing key players due to injuries and personal reasons, couldn’t match the Nets’ firepower.

Cleveland faced challenges with Donovan Mitchell sidelined for his sixth consecutive game due to knee soreness, alongside Evan Mobley, Max Strus, and Dean Wade also out of action. Despite Isaac Okoro briefly granting them a lead at 53-52 early in the second half, the Cavaliers couldn’t maintain momentum against Brooklyn’s relentless offense.

The victory marks Brooklyn’s second win in three games on their ongoing six-game road trip, culminating on March 17 against San Antonio in Austin, Texas. With only one home game scheduled between March 7 and 27, the Nets face a demanding schedule.

Although Nets guard Lonnie Walker IV returned from illness, forward Cam Johnson remained sidelined with a sprained ankle, with his return status being monitored on a day-to-day basis according to interim coach Kevin Ollie.
