Post-Game Recap

3 Key Factors Around the Victory

1 – Mitchell and Garland

What a night for the Cavs dynamic duo with Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland combing for 55 of the Cavs 115 on the night.

2 – Rebounding

The difference in the game regarding stats is the rebounding advantage the Cavs had on Sunday night.  They outrebounded the Warriors by ten, led by Evan Mobley, who had 16 on the night.

3 – W against Golden State

The win on Sunday marked the first time the Cavs had beaten the Warriors since Christmas Day 2016.

Game Summary

On Sunday night, Donovan Mitchell led the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 115-104 victory over the Golden State Warriors, putting an end to their 16-game losing streak against the Warriors.

Darius Garland contributed 24 points and seven assists, Evan Mobley posted 13 points and grabbed an impressive 16 rebounds, while Max Strus chipped in with 15 points for the Cavaliers. This win was especially sweet for Cleveland as it marked their first triumph over Golden State since December 25, 2016, breaking a streak of 12 regular-season losses and four playoff defeats.

Stephen Curry led the charge for the Warriors with 28 points, sinking seven of 11 three-pointers, while Draymond Green added 18 points and eight assists. However, the Warriors couldn’t get any closer than a five-point deficit in the second half and suffered their first road loss of the season.

Prior to this game, the Warriors had been on a hot streak with a 4-0 record in away games, which matched their second-best start in franchise history. Klay Thompson and Jonathan Kuminga both contributed 15 points to the Warriors’ efforts.

Donovan Mitchell played a pivotal role in the Cavaliers’ victory, not only with his 31 points but also with seven assists and two steals in 34 minutes of play. Jarrett Allen added 12 points and nine rebounds, helping Cleveland dominate the boards with a 55-44 rebounding advantage.

The history between these two teams was notable, as they had faced each other in four consecutive NBA Finals from 2015 to 2018. The Cavaliers’ memorable championship win in 2016, after overcoming a 3-1 series deficit and clinching Game 7 on the road, remains a highlight in their franchise’s history.
