1 – 9th inning heroics – Naylor and Zunino
Down 2-0, one out and bases loaded, Josh Naylor with a huge single to get the game tied at two. Two batters later and the bases loaded again with two outs, Mike Zunino gets the key walk to win the game. Good job on Zunino to stay patient and get that winning run across the plate.
Back to Naylor, he has been coming on lately with big hits in the Colorado and Boston series, and tonight solidifies he has found his grove, rock the baby Naylor.
2 – Yankee Killer Jose Ramirez with the key at-bat in the 9th
On the YES Network (Yankees TV), they gave the label to JRAM “Yankees Killer,” and the at-bat in the 9th with two on and one out really opened up the inning with his single to load the bases. The Guardians never get to Naylor without the hitting of JRAM.
3 – Cal Quantrill and Clase step up
Cal Quantrill had a great game today, going seven and a third, giving the Guardians a chance to come back. It was the best outing of the year for Quantrill when the Guards really needed it.
Finally, Emanual Clase was dominant tonight, never allowing the Yanks to get a baserunner in a one, two, three 9th.
BONUS – Boone taking out German
I’m not sure why Yankees Manager Aaron Boone took out German, but he did after giving up a single to Steven Kwan in the 9th. The Guardians were having a hard time with German, only getting two hits in eight-plus. Once Holmes came into the game, you could feel the momentum change. Boone should have kept German in the game.
The Cleveland Guardians pulled off an incredible comeback in their Monday night game against the New York Yankees, securing a 3-2 victory in the ninth inning. Down 2-0 and facing a dominant pitching performance from the Yankees’ Domingo Germán, the Guardians rallied for three runs in the ninth. Josh Naylor kicked off the rally with a clutch two-run single, and Mike Zunino drew a bases-loaded walk to take the lead. This stunning turnaround came after the Guardians had been taunted by Yankees fans during last year’s Division Series. Despite trailing for most of the game, the Guardians seized their opportunity when Yankees reliever Clay Holmes committed an error and allowed a single, loading the bases for Naylor’s heroics. The Guardians’ comeback victory is sure to be a memorable moment for fans and players alike.
Tuesday – Game 2 at New York Yankees 7:05 PM EST.
Huge Win!! Guards needed that one.
