What a day for Quantrill, throwing a one-hitter and going seven innings, back to the home dominance of Quantrill at Progressive. Even with the injuries, this rotation is starting to form with Shane Bieber, Tanner Bibee, Logan Allen, and Peyton Battenfield.
Straw hit in the two hole today and while it did not bring the house down with runs, it did bring two runs in the first with Steven Kwan, Straw, and JRAM all getting on to the Guardians a rare early lead.
3 – James Karinchack did the job
It was nerve-wracking, but James Karinchak came into the 8th and did not allow a run. Big first step for Karinchak, and as I have mentioned before, the Guards need him to win the Central.
The Guardians of Cleveland shut down the Minnesota Twins 2-0 on Sunday, thanks to a dominant performance from pitcher Cal Quantrill. He had a no-hitter bid going until Alex Kirilloff broke it up with a single in the seventh inning. Despite giving up the lone hit, Quantrill earned a standing ovation from the crowd of 17,477 as he left the mound after striking out four, walking three, and hitting a batter over 95 pitches.
James Karinchak and Emmanuel Clase helped seal the victory with their pitching in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively. The win gave Cleveland the series 2-1 over Minnesota, who had previously homered in 18 straight games. The Guardians got their two runs in the first inning off Joe Ryan, who allowed a pair of RBI singles to José Ramírez and Josh Bell. Though Ryan settled in after that, retiring 13 of the next 14 batters he faced, the early deficit proved insurmountable for the Twins.
