Andres Gimenez came up in the bottom of the 10th with the bases loaded and hit a single to deep right to win the game! Gimenez’s single was only the second hit with runners in scoring position as Cleveland was 2 for 12 with RISP on the night.
The other hit with RISP went to Amed Rosario who was 3 for 5 on the night with an RBI and a run scored. Rosario’s single in the 7th scored Myles Straw to make it 2-1, and on the very next at-bat, Rosario was able to score from first on a Jose Ramirez double that was misplayed by the A’s left fielder Sean Brown that tied the game at 2.
Good bounce-back start for Aaron Civale who went 6 2/3 innings pitched and only gave up two earned. The key moment in the game for Civale was the top of 5th as he had the bases loaded with one out and was able to get Ryan Noda out on a line drive to Josh Naylor who tagged 1st base to get a double play that ended the inning.
In the 10th inning, Andrés Giménez’s well-placed single down the right-field line brought home José Ramírez from third base, propelling the Cleveland Guardians to a thrilling 3-2 victory on Tuesday night over the struggling Oakland Athletics, who suffered their sixth consecutive loss.
The game reached a pivotal moment in the 10th inning with the bases loaded and no outs. Giménez stepped up to the plate and delivered a clutch single, dropping the ball just inside the right-field line, off the pitching of Trevor May (2-4). This walk-off hit marked Cleveland’s fourth such win this season, igniting celebration among Giménez’s teammates as they mobbed him on the field.
Prior to this late-game heroics, the Guardians had struggled to generate offense, being held scoreless for six innings. However, they managed to tie the game in the seventh inning with Amed Rosario’s RBI single and Ramírez’s run-scoring double.
Pitcher Enyel De Los Santos (3-1) played a crucial role in the 10th inning, preventing the Athletics from seizing the lead and ultimately earning him the win.
The loss dropped the Oakland Athletics to a dismal 19-56 record, their worst since the 1920 Philadelphia A’s started with the same mark.
The 10th inning commenced with Ramírez positioned as the runner on second base, prompting the A’s to intentionally walk the red-hot Josh Naylor to face Tyler Freeman. Freeman executed a well-placed bunt in front of the plate, allowing Ramírez to reach third base safely on a close play. It was Giménez’s subsequent hit that sealed the victory for the Guardians.
In the seventh inning, Tony Kemp connected for his second home run of the season, the first since April 21, against Cleveland’s pitcher Aaron Civale. This gave the Athletics a 2-0 lead.
Cleveland’s offense struggled throughout the first six innings, and Civale appeared headed for a difficult loss. However, the Guardians managed to rally in the seventh inning, as Rosario and Ramírez came through with timely hits to tie the game.
The momentum shifted further when Myles Straw led off the inning with a double, prompting Oakland manager Mark Kotsay to replace pitcher Luis Medina, who had held the Guardians to only four hits over 4 1/3 innings. Sam Moll entered the game and quickly recorded two outs before Rosario’s single reduced Oakland’s lead to 2-1.
Ramírez found himself in a tough spot, falling behind in the count 1-2. Nevertheless, he unleashed a powerful hit toward left fielder Seth Brown, who made a diving attempt to catch the sinking liner. Unfortunately for the Athletics, the ball eluded Brown and rolled to the wall, allowing the speedy Rosario to score from first base.
Guardians: RHP Cal Quantrill (shoulder sprain), who has recently been in Arizona during his recovery, is scheduled to make a 60-pitch rehab start in Columbus on Friday before the team decides whether to activate him.
