Game Summary

On Friday night, the Milwaukee Brewers dominated the Cleveland Guardians with a 7-1 victory, fueled by an outstanding performance from Willy Adames and Wade Miley. Adames showcased his power at the plate, hitting two home runs and driving in a total of five runs. Miley, on the other hand, delivered six exceptional innings without conceding any runs.

Adames displayed his prowess in the sixth inning, launching a magnificent three-run homer off Shane Bieber (5-5). Milwaukee’s formidable shortstop didn’t stop there. In the ninth inning, he smashed a solo shot, and in the first inning, he contributed with a run-scoring single. Adames’ incredible display of skill marked his third multi-homer game, and he went 4 for 5, securing four hits for the sixth time.

Miley (5-2) was exceptional on the mound, allowing only three hits and retiring the last 11 batters he faced. This game against Cleveland marked Miley’s first start against them since his no-hitter at Progressive Field on May 7, 2021, when he was playing for Cincinnati.

Cleveland’s José Ramírez managed to hit a home run, but it wasn’t enough to sustain their winning streak, which was halted at four games.

Bieber, who is expected to be traded by the Guardians before the August 1 deadline, matched Miley’s performance for the first five innings, impressively striking out eight batters. However, he encountered significant trouble in the sixth inning.

The rally began when Williams Contreras led off with a single, followed by Rowdy Tellez’s double. Adames, who had already singled home Milwaukee’s first run in the first inning, wasted no time and drove Bieber’s first pitch 423 feet to left field for his 11th homer, granting the Brewers a commanding 4-0 lead. After this rough inning, Bieber, who had thrown 82 pitches, his lowest count in 16 starts this season, was pulled from the game by manager Terry Francona.

Milwaukee continued their offensive onslaught in the sixth inning, scoring two more runs against reliever Tim Herrin. RBI singles by Joey Weimer and Christian Yelich extended the Brewers’ lead to 6-0.

In the early stages of the game, the Guardians managed to get hits against Miley in the first two innings. However, the 36-year-old veteran pitcher escaped unscathed in the first inning with a well-executed double play. In the second inning, despite surrendering a leadoff double to Josh Naylor, Miley stranded a runner at third, preventing any damage.

Cleveland squandered another opportunity to score against Miley in the third inning when Cam Gallagher doubled with one out.

TRAINER’S ROOM

OF Will Brennan (shoulder soreness) felt good after playing catch and could be back in the lineup this weekend after hurting his shoulder while making a diving catch on the warning track Wednesday against Oakland. … RHP Cal Quantrill (shoulder inflammation) will pitch at Double-A Akron on Sunday before rejoining the rotation.
