Jose Ramirez and Josh Naylor hit solo shots on Saturday night, producing the only two runs for the Guards. Cleveland only got four hits in the game, ugh.
Lucas Giolito was much better in his second start for Cleveland, going seven strong and giving up four runs off of three home runs.
In the bottom of the 8th inning, Ramon Laureano went after a Randal Grichuk deep fly that eventually left the yard for a two-run home run, and Laureano appeared to injure his hand, trying to make the catch. He was removed from the game before the next pitch. More details to follow when they become available.
Logan O’Hoppe and Randal Grichuk both smashed home runs, securing a 6-2 victory for the Los Angeles Angels over the Cleveland Guardians on Saturday night. Tyler Anderson notched his second win since the All-Star break.
The game featured a total of 11 hits, with an impressive six of them clearing the ballpark fences. Among these, four belonged to the Angels, who were notably without Shohei Ohtani for the sixth consecutive game due to a strained right oblique.
Brett Phillips and Matt Thaiss each contributed solo homers for the Angels, who managed to secure just their second win in nine games during the month of September. Three of these home runs were surrendered by Cleveland’s starter, Lucas Giolito (7-13), who was claimed by the Guardians on August 31 after being placed on waivers by the Angels.
On the Guardians’ side, José Ramírez and Josh Naylor also launched home runs, but it wasn’t enough as they dropped two of three in the four-game series.
Tyler Anderson (6-6) delivered an outstanding performance, pitching a season-high eight innings and conceding only two runs on four hits while striking out four batters. After Naylor’s game-tying homer in the third inning, Anderson allowed just two more baserunners, retiring nine consecutive batters until José Ramírez singled with two outs in the eighth.
Logan O’Hoppe made a significant impact with a two-run home run in the first inning, marking the first time in his career that he homered in back-to-back games and giving the Angels a 2-1 lead. Randal Grichuk extended that lead with a two-run homer down the right-field line in the eighth inning.
Brett Phillips also contributed to the Angels’ offensive display by hitting a home run to right field in the third inning, his first since July 17, 2022, when he was with Tampa Bay.
José Ramírez, the second batter of the game, gave the Guardians an early lead with a solo home run to center field. This marked his seventh home run in his last 22 games against the Angels and tied him with Andre Thornton for eighth place in franchise history with 214 home runs.
