The Cleveland Guardians and Boston Red Sox will play Sunday at Fenway Park. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. ET.
Cleveland (13-13 SU and 10-16 RL) has dropped consecutive series to Detroit, Miami, and Colorado. The Guardians will wrap up their series with the Red Sox with lefty Logan Allen on the mound. The 24-year-old is 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA in one start this season.
Boston (13-14 SU and 14-13 RL) won consecutive series over the Los Angeles Angels, Minnesota, and Milwaukee but lost its most recent set with Baltimore. The Red Sox will start left-hander Chris Sale tomorrow. The 34-year-old is 1-2 with an 8.22 ERA in five starts this season.
1 – Jose Jose Jose
JRAM is having quite the series so far in Beantown. His first twelve-pitch at-bat in game one set the tone in the 5-2 victory, and yesterday he had the game-tying RBI single in the 9th. So far in the series, he has four hits in seven at-bats.
2 – Logan Allen on the bump
Never easy to pitch at Fenway Park, but how about your second big league start to boot? Allen was wonderful in his first start, but this is a different challenge facing the hard-hitting Boston Red Sox at the hitting-friendly confines. A good early test for the young lefty.
3 – Guards facing Chris Sale
Sale is not having a good season so far for Boston, with his ERA above eight. The Guardians have been challenged early in 2023 when facing a lefty, but they should hit Sale hard today. I’m curious to see if Brennan gets the start instead of Gonzalez, normally Tito pencils in Gonzalez against a left-handed pitcher, but Brennan is having a stronger year at the plate.
