Another Game to Forget!

3 Observations from Game 3

1 – A lefty dominates again

The southpaw struggles continue as the Guards now fall to 4-11 against starting left-handed pitchers.  Eduardo Rodriguez was excellent today, again going seven innings strong and giving the Guards nightmares.

2 – Four hits

Four hits of which most were by the rookies recently call up. That’s all the Guardians could muster as the big bats were silent today.

3 – Zunino another PB

Mike Zunino continues to struggle with another passed ball.  Guardians have to figure out the catching situation soon, like now.

Game Summary

On Wednesday, the Detroit Tigers easily defeated the Cleveland Guardians 5-0 to take the three-game series. Eduardo Rodriguez pitched for seven innings and struck out eight, while only allowing two runners past first base in his sixth consecutive dominant performance. Rodriguez has been in excellent form since April 12, with a 0.43 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 41 2/3 innings, earning four wins in the process.

Javier Báez was the standout performer for the Tigers, scoring two runs and collecting two hits, including a single and a double, in the first three innings. The Tigers built up a 5-0 lead with RBI doubles from Andy Ibañez and Akil Baddoo, a single from Spencer Torkelson, and a run from Riley Greene, all against Cleveland starter Peyton Battenfield.

Rodriguez earned his second win against the Guardians this season and his fourth win overall against Cleveland, throwing 15 scoreless innings in the process. Jason Foley and Chasen Shreve completed the game with a combined four-hitter, marking Detroit’s fourth shutout of the season.

The Guardians’ Tyler Freeman singled twice, and David Fry recorded his first major league hit. However, the team struggled to make an impact and suffered their fifth series loss in six home series this season.

Guardians second baseman Andrés Giménez was left out of the lineup after a rough patch, batting only .134 in the previous 20 games. Manager Terry Francona believed that taking a break might be beneficial for Giménez’s mental state.
