On Wednesday afternoon, the Cleveland Guardians and the Colorado Rockies will conclude their three-game series in Cleveland. The Rockies have encountered difficulties in the season’s early stages, placing them in the last position in the NL West. Similarly, the Guardians have had a sluggish start as they defend their 2022 AL Central Division title, trailing behind the current leaders, Minnesota. The pitching duel on Wednesday will involve the Rockies’ right-handed pitcher, German Marquez (1-1, 4.43), and the Guardians’ Tanner Bibee (0-0, 0.00). The game is slated to begin at 1:10 PM EST.
The Guardians, as of 9:00 am on Wednesday, has not announced a starter, but I will go out on a limb and say it is Bibee. A lot of hype for young Bibee, and the Guards need him to perform as they are needing a win.
Pedro Cerrano talked about needing hats for bats to keep bats warm. Maybe that is what the Guards need? Right now, it is hard to pinpoint anyone who is hitting the ball consistently. Time for Ramirez to lift this team, and Gimenez needs to break out of his funk (Gimenez is batting .194 at home currently).
After today, the Guards go to Boston for three, to the Bronx for three, and then home for three against Minnesota. This is why it was so important for the Guards to take advantage of an easier schedule, and they did not, as they lost seven out of nine to the Tigers, Marlins, and Rockies.
Cleveland Guardians’ prospect, Tanner Bibee, is anticipated to make his first appearance in the major leagues on Wednesday afternoon as a pitcher. Bibee’s scheduled start in Triple-A was canceled, and he was summoned to join the team to fill a gap in the rotation created by a doubleheader over the weekend. With a remarkable 2.13 ERA, Bibee boasts an impressive record of 10 wins and two losses over two seasons in the Guardians’ organization in the minor leagues.
Although Noah Davis was initially slated to pitch, the Colorado Rockies have opted to give the opening-day starter, German Marquez, the nod for Wednesday’s game. Marquez has recently returned from a 15-day stint on the injured list due to a right forearm strain. With a record of 2 wins and one loss this season, Marquez has amassed a 4.41 ERA over three starts. He has pitched one quality start and has conceded 13 hits over a total of 16.1 innings. So far, Marquez has registered a career-high hard-hit rate of 58.7 and a K% of 20.9 in his first three starts. He has yet to suffer a loss in road games, boasting a record of 1-0, and has allowed three home runs this season.
In the series finale, the Guardians plan to showcase another one of their pitching prospects, hoping to come out with a much-needed victory. However, in case of any struggles, the Guardians have long relief options available in their bullpen. On the other hand, the Rockies will be calling upon veteran pitcher Marquez, who is returning from an injury and may have some limitations. Having only won one game out of five on their current homestand, the Guardians will aim to finish on a positive note. They may find success against Marquez, who has been hit hard in his first three starts of the season, with a hard-hit percentage exceeding 50%. Wednesday’s game will be a great place to begin the journey.
