Recap 5/8/23 | Guardians Lose 2-6 vs. Tigers

3 Observations from Game 1

1 – Bibee is human

Bibee in his third start finally looks human giving up seven hits, four walks, and four earned runs. Bibee really had a hard time getting ahead of hitters and struggled to find command of the strike zone.

2 – Lefty Kryptonite

The left-handed starting pitching issues continue for the Guardians’ bats as tonight Tiger starter Joey Wentz, who has an ERA over six, held the Guardians to three hits and two runs.  A real snoozer on offense.

3 – 6th and 7th inning opportunities lost

The Guards had opportunities in the middle of the game to score some runs but could not do so.  In the 6th after back-to-back walks to Kwan and Rosario, the Guardians got a JRAM infield pop-out, Bell lined out to right and Naylor grounded out to second.

The next inning, after Brennan lined a single to right giving the Guards 1st and 3rd with one out, Straw, on the very next pitch hit a lazy shallow fly to right, falling to score Gimenez from third and killing the rally.

Game Summary

In Monday night’s game, the Detroit Tigers defeated the Cleveland Guardians 6-2, with Joey Wentz earning his first win after shrugging off a couple of quick hits. Andy Ibañez led the way for the Tigers with a home run and three runs scored, while the bullpen closed out the game with a combined six-hitter. The Guardians struggled offensively, with only a home run from José Ramírez to show for their efforts. The Tigers built a 4-1 lead against rookie Tanner Bibee, who was pulled in the fourth inning after giving up an RBI double to Riley Greene. Andrés Giménez provided some bright spots for the Guardians with two impressive defensive plays.
