Former Indians pitcher Mike Clevinger is on the bump tonight for the White Sox. Clevinger was traded back in August 2020 to San Diego, and Cleveland received a haul of players, including Josh Naylor, Cal Quantrill, and Gabriel Arias, to name a few.
So far in the month of May, Cleveland catchers are batting .000. YEP, BIG FAT ZERO! Have we mentioned the struggles behind the plate? Lordy.
Not quite Super Rosario all the time, but Amed Rosario is having a good seven-game stretch with 12 hits that included two doubles and two triples. He has raised his average by 40 points to .262.
It’s Wednesday, time for me to share the outcome of last night’s game involving the Guardians. Unfortunately, they suffered a loss. Surprisingly, the White Sox, whose starting pitcher had a high 7.51 ERA, played exceptional defense and easily defeated our lackluster Cleveland Guardians.
During the game, Josh Naylor sustained an injury, and it appears unlikely that he will be able to play today. This adds to the lineup’s woes as they are already missing Jose Ramirez, who was placed on the bereavement list yesterday. To fill Ramirez’s spot, Brayan Rocchio was called up to the team.
The silver lining in the game was that Rocchio achieved his first MLB hit. Interestingly, the hit only traveled a distance of 2 feet and had an exit velocity of 53.9 mph. It may not have been a powerful hit, but it was a perfect fit for the situation.
Lynn displayed flawless performance during the initial three innings of Tuesday night’s game, while Bieber managed to keep the opposing team from scoring as the bottom of the fifth inning approached. With only two outs remaining in the frame, it seemed like the game would maintain a scoreless tie.
However, as Luis Robert Jr. swung at a pitch within the strike zone, Cleveland’s catcher Mike Zunino unintentionally obstructed the trajectory with his mitt hand, resulting in a catcher’s interference call that extended the inning.
Capitalizing on this opportunity, the White Sox launched an impressive offensive onslaught with six consecutive two-out hits, causing them to secure a commanding six-run lead and forcing Bieber out of the game. Notably, this rally included remarkable home runs from Jake Burger and Gavin Sheets. Subsequently, the Chicago team managed to score only two more runs for the remainder of the game following this pivotal inning.
The White Sox are a bad home team and the Guardians are a solid road team, with a 10-10 road record on the season. Recent matchups between these teams have been fairly even, with each team winning 5 of the last 10 meetings. However, the Guardians are 3-1 in the last 4 meetings and have a slight edge heading into Wednesday.
The over/under on this game, today is 9. The Under is 5-0 in Cleveland’s last 5 Wednesday games and 5-0 in Battenfield’s 5 career starts on grass. The Under is also 6-2-2 in Cleveland’s last 10 overall.
The Under is 5-1-1 in Chicago’s last 7 games and 4-1 in their last 5 games overall.
Guess what we are recommending if you are a gambling sort of person!
