Jose Ramirez made sure to end the home stand with a bang, hitting not one, but two home runs going for 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs on Wednesday.
After J-RAM’s second home run of the day in the bottom of the 4th, David Fry came up later in the inning and hit a 2-run dinger to put the game away for the Guardians. Fry’s home run was the second in his last three games giving him four on the season.
Gavin Williams did not give up a run in the game but only went four innings. The bullpen took over from there giving up three runs in the last five innings with the win going to Nick Sandlin.
On Wednesday, the Cleveland Guardians secured an 8-3 victory against the Kansas City Royals, thanks to José Ramírez’s impressive performance. Ramírez delivered a two-run homer in the first inning and followed it up with a solo shot in the fourth, marking his 22nd multi-homer game in his career and his second this season. His 16th home run of the season included right-field seats hit in the first and a center-wall clearing blast in the fourth.
Throughout the game, Ramírez demonstrated his offensive prowess, going 3 for 4 with a check-swing infield hit in the sixth, a walk in the second with a stolen base, and ultimately scoring three runs. His incredible streak finally came to an end with a groundout in the eighth inning.
Contributing to Cleveland’s triumph, David Fry hit a two-run homer in the fourth, and Steven Kwan added two RBIs to the team’s score. With this win, Cleveland improved their record to 51-51 and now trails Minnesota by only two games in the AL Central.
The Guardians’ starting pitcher, Gavin Williams, put up an impressive performance by pitching four scoreless innings, but he was taken out of the game after throwing 85 pitches due to a blister on his middle finger that developed in his previous start against Philadelphia. In the first inning, he skillfully worked out of a bases-loaded jam, showing great composure.
Nick Sandlin (5-3) took over on the mound and allowed a run in the fifth inning.
On the opposing side, Kansas City’s starter Alec Marsh (0-5) struggled, giving up four runs in just 2 2/3 innings. Unfortunately, he has lost all five of his major league starts, surrendering nine home runs in just 23 innings.
In the ninth inning, MJ Melendez managed to hit a solo homer for Kansas City, while Maikel Garcia and Dairon Blanco also contributed with RBI singles. Despite loading the bases with one out in the sixth inning, Kansas City failed to capitalize and score.
Cleveland’s recent performance has been notable, as they have now won three straight series, a feat they hadn’t achieved since finishing the 2022 season with five consecutive series victories.
In the game, Ramírez’s first-inning homer followed a walk to Andrés Giménez, setting the tone for their victory. Kwan’s offensive contributions included an RBI single in the second and a bases-loaded walk in the third.
The Guardians are carefully managing the workloads of their young pitchers, including Williams, Tanner Bibee, and Logan Allen while dealing with injuries to Shane Bieber, Triston McKenzie, and Cal Quantrill, who are currently on the injured list.
