3 Things About Guardians Loss to the Chicago White Sox

1 – No Bullpen Win

The third bullpen game for the Guardians was unsuccessful as two home runs by the White Sox along with an additional run was enough.  Xzavion Curry lost his first game of the season going three innings in defeat.

2 – The 1st inning missed opportunity

The Guardians had a moment in the 1st inning with the bases loaded and only one out as Steven Kwan walked, Andres Gimenez got on with an error and Josh Naylor moved them both over with a single, but the Guards were unable to score as Josh Bell grounded into an inning-ending double play.   Cleveland never got another moment like that in the game after the first inning.

3 – Still Lovin the Southside

Josh Naylor, even in a loss, still went 3 for 4 on the Southside.  Naylor was the only Cleveland hitter with multiple hits on Friday night.

Game Summary

On Friday night, the Chicago White Sox put an end to their six-game losing streak with a 3-0 victory against the Cleveland Guardians. Luis Robert Jr. and Jake Burger played a key role in the win, each hitting a homer. Touki Toussaint, who pitched five innings, secured his first win on the mound.

Earlier in the day, the White Sox made significant moves during the trade deadline, sending pitchers Lance Lynn, Joe Kelly, and Kendall Graveman to other teams. Lynn and Kelly were dealt to the Los Angeles Dodgers, and in return, the White Sox acquired Trayce Thompson and minor league pitchers Nick Nastrini and Jordan Leasure. Graveman, on the other hand, was traded to the Houston Astros in exchange for minor-league catcher Korey Lee.

Back to the game, Toussaint’s excellent performance limited the Guardians to just three hits, while he walked one batter and struck out four. Tanner Banks followed with three innings of strong relief, allowing only two hits. Gregory Santos secured his second save of the year for the White Sox.

The action on the field began with Robert hitting his 29th home run in the first inning off Xzavion Curry, giving the White Sox an early 1-0 lead. Burger continued to impress with his hitting, following up his two-homer game on Thursday with a solo shot off Daniel Norris in the sixth inning, extending Chicago’s lead to 2-0. In the eighth inning, Elvis Andrus, pinch-running for Eloy Jiménez, scored from third on a single by Oscar Colás, further solidifying the White Sox’s lead at 3-0.

For the Guardians, Josh Naylor was the standout performer, contributing significantly with a double and two singles, accounting for half of their six hits.

The victory also saw Cleveland’s manager, Terry Francona, come close to surpassing Hall of Famer Casey Stengel for the 13th-most wins by a manager in MLB history.

In summary, the Chicago White Sox’s timely trades and the impressive performances of their players, including the home runs by Luis Robert Jr. and Jake Burger, secured them a much-needed win against the Cleveland Guardians.
