The hot-named manager to get this offseason is Craig Counsell, and the latest report from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is that Counsell is looking to reset the market for paying managers. One would think that is going to be a hefty payday, which is leading most to believe the Mets is the most likely destination.
Counsell interviewed with the Guardians, and we know this organization believes in the importance of having a good manager. Let’s see if they can get Counsell to Cleveland with a big fat contract.
If the manager hiring were not going on, this would be the big topic of where Shane Bieber will land this offseason or if he returns to Cleveland.
There are other starting pitcher names in the mix, similar to Bieber being bantered about a possible trade so the Guardians will have some likely competition.
There is no hot rumor of what is going to happen with Bieber, but Guardians fans, keep your eye on this situation as I see Cleveland moving on from Bieber before February.
Welcome Alfonso Rivas to Cleveland as he was added to the 40-man roster from Pittsburgh.
Rivas has been in the big leagues for three seasons while bouncing back and forth from triple-a with a career batting average of .243, seven home runs, and 28 RBIs in 295 at-bats.
The Guardians added Jonathan Rodriguez, who played last season in Akron and Columbus, to the 40-man roster, as rosters must be set by November 14th.
Rodriguez had a good season in triple-a Columbus with a .280 average, eleven home runs, and 33 RBIs.
