Post-Game Recap

3 Things Around The Game

1 – Shutout

After an offensive explosion on Tuesday, the Guardians failed to get a runner in scoring position on Wednesday. Tanner Houck pitched a complete game shutout against the Guardians as Cleveland only managed three singles.

2 – Lively

Ben Lively did have a good game going five strong, only giving up two earned while scattering three hits.

3 – Transactions

The Guardians before the game activated Lively while optioning Xzavion Curry to Columbus and also placed Eli Morgan on the 15-day IL and recalled Wes Parsons Columbus.

Game Summary

Tanner Houck dominated on the mound, delivering a three-hitter with nine strikeouts to secure Boston’s inaugural complete-game shutout at Fenway Park in nearly seven years. The Red Sox triumphed over the Cleveland Guardians with a 2-0 victory on Wednesday night.

In the fourth inning, Connor Wong smashed a home run, adding to Boston’s tally after they scored their initial run on a balk by starter Ben Lively in the preceding inning.

Houck (3-1) showcased impeccable control, issuing zero walks in his first-ever complete game, a swift affair lasting just 1 hour and 49 minutes. He fell just short of his season’s strikeout record by one.

This performance marked Boston’s first complete-game shutout since Michael Wacha’s stellar three-hitter in a 1-0 win against the Los Angeles Angels on June 6, 2022. Notably, no Red Sox pitcher had achieved this feat at home since Brian Johnson’s five-hit gem against Seattle on May 27, 2017.
