QB Deshaun Watson did not speak in front of the press on Wednesday and also did not practice.
Head Coach Kevin Stefanski: “He continues to be day-to-day with this injury and we’ll continue to treat it. And that’s really – I’m not going to have updates past today.”
If Watson cannot go on Sunday, the next man up for the Browns at quarterback will be PJ Walker, who was just promoted to number two on the official depth chart.
“Just felt like it was the right decision for the team,” Stefanski said of Walker. “PJ’s been here now for a month plus getting a better understanding of what we do.
“He’s got a great demeanor, great way about him. He fits in well with the team. But if PJ does end up playing, you’re just looking for him to be the best version of himself.”
In regards to the Browns having to possibly play the Niners with Walker as the starter, “You have to embrace opportunities,” Stefanski said. “You have to embrace these challenges. Our players love the idea of playing a great team.”
Aside from Watson, the Browns were also down three key starters leading with DE Myles Garrett (foot), G Joel Bitonio (knee), and TE David Njoku (face, hand). All three did not practice on Wednesday along with WR Amari Cooper but he was resting and will play on Sunday.
Both RB Jerome Ford (knee) and C Ethan Pocic (chest, knee, foot) were limited on Wednesday.
