The Cleveland Guardians won the MLB Draft lottery and because of that, for the first time in team history, Cleveland baseball will be drafting at number one overall. Cleveland has drafted second five times, but never first.
Clubhouse and fan favorite in 2022, catcher Austin Hedges is back in Cleveland after helping Texas win a World Series in 2023. Hedges signed a one-year 4 million deal with the Guardians on Friday, December 15th. Hedges will be the backup for starting catcher Bo Naylor in 2024.
Earlier in December, the Cleveland Guardians were selected in the Rule 5 Draft from the Arizona Diamondback Deyvison De Los Santos. Guardians Executive VP and Assistant GM Matt Forman mentioned in a Bally Sports interview that De Los Santos said: “his calling card is his raw power.” De Los Santos belted 20 homers in Double-A last season.
