Clark Field Ribbon Cut Officially Opened by José Ramírez and City of Tremont

Appreciation and Generosity

A segment of the historic Clark Field located in Cleveland’s Tremont neighborhood has recently undergone a transformation and received a new title. Now known as “José Ramírez Field,” this area boasts a cutting-edge artificial turf baseball field, named in honor of one of the city’s beloved sports figures.

Field Officially Opened

With a ceremonial ribbon-cutting event held at Clark Field on Tuesday, the José Ramírez Field was officially inaugurated.

During the 2023 CLE Inspires Week, the City of Cleveland and Cleveland Guardians Charities came together to dedicate this field to José Ramírez, the esteemed All-Star third baseman of the Cleveland Guardians. This announcement was made through an official statement from Cleveland Guardians Baseball.

The realization of this field was made possible through the combined efforts of the Cleveland Guardians Charities Fields for the Future Program and the financial contributions from José Ramírez himself.

Helping Cleveland Youth Baseball and Softball Organizations

Set to cater to the city’s youth and facilitate the Guardians’ Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities program, the new José Ramírez Field will also serve as the home ground for Lincoln West High School’s baseball and softball teams.

“This felt like the most natural fit,” Ramírez expressed, as reported by Mandy Bell of MLB.com. “I’ve been on a baseball field since the age of 7, and the majority of my life has revolved around baseball fields. So, what better way to give back to a community than through something that symbolizes such a significant part of my life?”

He becomes the inaugural Cleveland player to be honored with a dedicated field while still actively playing in the MLB. His initials, JR, are etched into the turf just behind the pitcher’s mound, and his reaction upon seeing the field for the first time was one of pure delight.

“I didn’t have the chance to witness the progress throughout the year. Witnessing it today was genuinely astonishing,” Ramírez shared with the assistance of team interpreter Agustin Rivero. “I’m genuinely elated. This field is a thing of beauty. It’s incredibly impressive and comfortable. I’m eagerly anticipating the final outcome.”

Guardians Teamates Showed Up to Support Jose!

In their pursuit of a playoff spot, the Guardians have experienced setbacks, trailing by six games in the AL Central division. Despite their efforts to catch up to the leading Minnesota Twins, their chances of gaining ground seem slim as the season progressively slips away. Manager Terry Francona has hinted at the possibility of retirement after the season, and it appears that the organization might be embarking on a new direction.
