Game 30 Recap 5/2 | Guardians Lose 2-4 at Yankees

3 Observations From Game 2

1 – Bibee with another good start.

Yes, the Guards lost, but it needs to be noted that Bibee again was strong in his second-ever MLB start.  Bibee got a scare when a line drive knocked his glove off, but after the game, he mentioned that he should be ok.

2 – Karinchak gives up another HR.

It is starting to get late early with Karinchak giving up home runs, now up to 5 in the young season.  I would not have gone to Karinchak tonight up 2-1, and not sure why he came back out for the 7th.  Karinchak needs some low-pressure situations to get his groove back from last year.

3 – 11 K’s for the Guards.

When the Cleveland bats get into double-digit territory with strikeouts, 99% chance it will be a loss for the Guards.  There are signs of the Guards breaking out of it, but they have not consistently put the ball in play yet this season.

Game Summary

In Tuesday night’s game, the New York Yankees faced off against the Cleveland Guardians, with the Yankees looking to stop a four-game losing streak. The Guardians had an impressive rookie pitcher, Tanner Bibee, who took a two-hit shutout into the sixth inning and struck out five Yankees batters. However, the Yankees were able to make a comeback, thanks to a home run by Willie Calhoun in the seventh inning and a stolen base by rookie Anthony Volpe in the eighth inning, leading to a 4-2 victory for the Yankees.

The Guardians’ offense was led by Josh Naylor, who hit a run-scoring double off Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole in the third inning, and Andrés Giménez, who hit an RBI groundout in the same inning. The Guardians’ center fielder Harrison Bader returned from injury and made his season debut, going 1 for 4 with a diving catch. Despite the efforts of the Guardians, the Yankees were able to pull off the win, with Cole striking out eight batters in six innings and remaining unbeaten in seven starts this season with an impressive 1.35 ERA.
