Observations from the Game

3 things Guardians 4-3 victory over the Cardinals:

1 – Memorial Day miracle!

When it looked like all hope was lost, the score was Cardinals leading 3-2, and Jose Ramirez up with runners on 1st and 2nd, 2 outs.  It felt like the Guards were going to lose again, and then out of nowhere, BOOM!!!  Ramirez hits a game-winning walk-off double to score both runs to win the game!  Thank you JOSE JOSE JOSE!

2 – Xzavion Curry

This win would not be possible without the great work from Xzavion Curry, who has been doing great work all year keeping games from getting out of hand.  Today was no different going three strong giving up no runs.  A tip of the cap should also go to Eli Morgan who also gave up no runs in 1 1/3 innings pitched.

3 – Bell and Zunino

They have been hammered lately for their poor play, but both Josh Bell and Mike Zunino had good days at the plate, both getting two hits a piece for Cleveland.

Game Summary

In a thrilling Sunday game, the Cleveland Guardians emerged victorious with a 4-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals, thanks to José Ramírez’s clutch performance. With two outs in the ninth inning, Ramírez hammered a two-run double off Ryan Helsley (3-4), sending the ball soaring to the right-center wall. This hit allowed Myles Straw and Steven Kwan, who had previously earned walks, to cross home plate.

The Guardians’ elation was palpable as the ball found its mark. Throughout the initial two months of the season, the team had struggled to deliver decisive hits, making this triumph all the more significant. Their jubilant response was immediate, with players rushing out of the dugout to joyfully congratulate Ramírez, who jubilantly tossed his helmet high into the air between second and third base.

Pitcher Xzavion Curry (1-0) deserves recognition for his remarkable performance, delivering three scoreless innings and securing his first major league win.

In the fifth inning, Paul Goldschmidt showcased his hitting prowess by belting one of St. Louis’ three solo home runs. Goldschmidt, along with Arenado and Alec Burleson, contributed two hits each to the Cardinals’ efforts.
