Game Summary

In a thrilling match against the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday night, Andy Ibáñez showcased his power by belting two home runs in his first two at-bats, tallying four RBIs for the Detroit Tigers in their 11-7 victory.

Ibáñez wasted no time, sending Logan Allen’s third pitch of the game over the fence for a homer. He then added a three-run blast in the second inning. His offensive prowess continued as he smacked a double in the eighth, completing a perfect 4-for-4 performance at the plate, also drawing a walk and scoring four runs.

Ryan Vilade, making his major league debut after being called up from Triple-A Toledo earlier in the day, made an immediate impact. He drove in three runs, including two with a single off Pedro Avila in the third inning and another crucial RBI in the seventh, propelling the Tigers to a 9-7 lead. Vilade’s journey to this moment was marked by perseverance and hard work, evident in his dedication to refining his game, even incorporating a new leg kick to enhance his timing at bat.

Reflecting on his long road to the majors, Vilade expressed gratitude for the opportunity and determination to seize it when it finally arrived. His debut hit, coming 963 days after his first plate appearance with Colorado in 2021, symbolized the culmination of years of dedication to his craft.

Despite a rocky start from starter Kenta Maeda, who conceded seven runs in just two innings, the Tigers found their footing with stellar relief pitching from Tyler Holton, who delivered three scoreless innings to secure the win.

For Cleveland, the night wasn’t without highlights as Josh Naylor and José Ramírez contributed with multi-RBI performances, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Tigers’ offensive onslaught.

In a poignant moment, Vilade’s debut was made even more special with the presence of his mother and grandmother, who traveled to witness his milestone achievement.

Manager A.J. Hinch commended Vilade’s determination and contribution to the team, highlighting the significance of his first major league hit and his role in the Tigers’ victory.

The Tigers’ explosive start, marked by Ibáñez’s leadoff homer for the second consecutive game, set the tone for a memorable night at the ballpark, ending their four-game losing streak with a statement win over the Guardians.
