3 Things About Guardians Loss to the Houston Astros

1 – Battling Bibee

Tanner Bibee fought hard on Wednesday, going five innings while giving up two earned.  Unfortunately for Cleveland, Nick Sandlin, who replaced Bibee in the bottom of the 6th, first pitch went out for a home run that ended up being the game-winning home run.

2 – SpongeBob and Arias

Oscar Gonzalez had a good game at the plate, going 3 for 4 with three singles.  Gabriel Arias had the big hit with a 2-run double in the top of the second inning, scoring the only runs in the game for the Guardians.

3 – Team Meeting

Guardians President Chris Antonetti and GM Mike Chernoff met with the players in the clubhouse before the game to clear the air with all of the recent moves.  Antonetti mentioned on the broadcast he wanted to be held “accountable” for the transactions and answer any questions the players had about the transactions

Game Summary

Chas McCormick blasted a two-run home run in the second inning and followed it up with a decisive shot in the sixth, propelling the Houston Astros to a 3-2 victory over the Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday.

This win marks a clean sweep in the three-game series, following Framber Valdez’s spectacular no-hitter on Tuesday night, which marked the 16th in franchise history.

McCormick’s impressive performance constitutes his third multi-homer game of his career and his second of this season.

In the ninth inning, Oscar Gonzalez managed to reach base due to an error by second baseman Mauricio Dubón. However, Ryan Pressly stepped up, striking out Bo Naylor, retiring Gabriel Arias with a fly ball, and striking out Steven Kwan to secure his 26th save.

Houston’s Ronel Blanco, who was brought up from Triple-A Sugar Land for the game, pitched four innings, allowing five hits and two runs while issuing four walks. Phil Maton (3-3) entered the game in the sixth inning and yielded only one hit to claim the victory.

Cleveland threatened in the eighth when Will Brennan doubled with one out, followed by a walk to David Fry. However, Brayan Rocchio’s double play ended the potential comeback.

Tanner Bibee, Cleveland’s starter, held on for five innings, allowing seven hits and two runs.

The second inning saw consecutive singles from Rocchio and Gonzalez, followed by a walk to Naylor, loading the bases. Arias capitalized with a double to left field, scoring two and giving the Guardians an early lead.

In response, José Abreu singled in the bottom of the inning, setting the stage for McCormick’s game-tying home run, his first of the day.

Nick Sandlin (5-4) took the mound for Bibee in the sixth inning, only to be met by McCormick’s second homer of the day, which propelled Houston into the lead.
