Game Summary

In Friday night’s game, Josh Naylor delivered a standout performance, driving in three runs for the Cleveland Guardians, while Logan Allen secured his first victory in four starts. The Guardians defeated the Los Angeles Angels with a final score of 6-3.

This marked Naylor’s 11th game this season in which he achieved at least three RBIs. Notably, Bo Naylor also contributed to the offensive effort, adding another run, which marked the seventh time this season that the Naylor brothers both registered an RBI in the same game.

Josh Naylor‘s impressive performance continued since his return from the injured list, going 5 for 17 with five RBIs in five games. He had been sidelined for a month due to a right oblique strain.

Logan Allen, with a record of 7-7, displayed excellent pitching, allowing only one run on three hits and striking out six. This victory was significant for him, as it marked his first win since August 15th. Additionally, among American League rookies, Allen ranks fourth in strikeouts (113) and fifth in wins.

Emmanuel Clase made a crucial appearance, retiring the side in the ninth inning and securing his 39th save of the season.

Despite their victory, the Guardians remained 6 1/2 games behind the Minnesota Twins in the AL Central division standings, as the Twins also won their game against the Mets on Friday.

In the sixth inning, Logan O’Hoppe contributed to the Angels’ effort with a two-run homer. However, the Angels struggled in this game, having lost seven of their last eight matchups.

Griffin Canning, with a record of 7-6, had a challenging outing, allowing three runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings.

The Guardians’ offensive momentum began in the third inning when Josh Naylor drove in a run with a base hit up the middle, bringing in Steven Kwan, who had led off the inning with a double.

Naylor’s additional RBIs came when he drew a walk with the bases loaded in the sixth inning and hit a sacrifice fly in the eighth.

Bo Naylor also had a strong showing, contributing two hits, including an RBI single in the fourth inning, which extended Cleveland’s lead to 2-0. Naylor had been performing exceptionally well lately, with 15 hits and 10 RBIs in his last 15 games.

The Guardians added to their lead with runs scored on sacrifice flies by Kwan in the sixth inning and Ramon Laureano in the eighth inning.

Although the Angels made an attempt to rally in the sixth, with O’Hoppe’s two-run homer, they fell short as Sam Hentges struck out Kyren Paris to end the inning, leaving the tying run on third base.
